define clinical psychology
looks at the diagnosis, treatment and causes of mental disorders. diagnosis uses the DSM and looks at the symptoms displayed by patients. using this diagnosis, treatments are used e.g. drug therapy. causes e.g. genetics can be used for preventions

define statistical norm of abnormality
says a behaviour is abnormal if it is statistically infrequent

define social norm of abnornality
says a behaviour is abnormal if it goes against social norms (cultural expectations of how to behave and how not to behave)

define schizophrenia
a mental disorder that causes people to interpret reality abnormally. it is characterised by positive (delusions, for example) and negative symptoms (psychomotor disturbances, for example)

define validity
when something is true to real life and tests what it claims to measure

define reliability
relates to how consistent a study is: if, when repeated, it gets the same/similar results

define primary and secondary data
primary: data collected firsthand by the researcher. secondary: secondhand analysis of preexisting data
