Range check
Ensures that the data is within a specified range such as a birthdays number being between 1 and 12 for the months.

Presence check
This ensures that all the important information has been entered for example if the birthday field is not entered then the system will not allow you to continue with your data logging until you have entered the field with information

Length check
This ensures that data has been entered at the right length, for example a phone number in the UK should only be 11 numbers long

Check digit
Ensures the numerical data has been entered accurately by having the final digit of a number determined by a formula that uses all the digits that have previously been entered. This can be used to check if the data entered is correct in that field.

Data type check
Ensures that text hasn't been entered in a field where numbers are needed and vice versa.

Proof reading
A person reads the data on the system and compares it with the original source and if there is an error it can be edited by the person

Double entry
When the data is entered twice by two different people, the computer will then compare these two versions and if an error is found it can be rectified

Parity checks
A check made of computer data to ensure that the total number of bits of value 1 (or 0) in each unit of information remains odd or even after transfer between a peripheral device and the memory or vice versa

Batch total
Totaling the documents/ data the data is typed from after it has been entered and then it compares it to the generated total if they differ then the person can tell if they have missed or doubled the entry they needed to do
