The idea that once people are labelled as deviant, their deviance might become worse.

An act that breaks the norms of society.

The idea that people labelled as deviant follow a path that leads to more deviance.

The idea that the police and courts may treat people of different social groups, such as class, ethnicity, gender differently.

This refers to a person having a physical or mental impairment that prevents them functioning in society as well as other people.

Discrimination
Treating an individual or a group differently because of their membership of a social group.

Divorce
The legal end of a marriage.

The number of divorces per thousand marriages in the population per year.

Domestic abuse
Behaviour that is threatening or controlling, physically, emotionally or psychologically towards people who are or have been family members.
