16th October 1962
Kennedy finds out about missile sites on Cuba. This information was kept sere from Cuba, USSR and the US's allies.

More missile sites found on Cuba, all major cities now in range. US troops move south in case of invaision.

Kennedy meets Gromyko, Soviet foreign ministe, who says missiles would be defensive only. Kennedy warns offensive weapons wouldn't be tolerated.

Kennedy goes on scheduled campaign trip to avoid suspicion. Some in Washington want military action, some want diplomatic action, lots think Kennedy isn't decisive enough.

Kennedy returns to the White House, decides on a naval blockade.

Air strikes confirmed by the Tactical Air Command to not necessarily be completely sucessful.

22nd October 1962
Kennedy briefs world on live television and asks for missles to be removed from Cuba and puts in place a naval quarantine. USSR ambassador told 1 hour before speech.
