Define Crime
Behaviour which is against the law (breaks the law)

Define Corporate Crime
Offences committed by large companies or staff within large companies, the offence will directly generate profit for the company not individuals.

Behaviour which breaks the social norms of society, leading to a failure in conform to societies expectations.

Define Deviance Amplification
When the media make events worse or create the type of deviance they and society condemn. For example, Teenagers.

Where people who have been labelledbas deviant are blocked from legitimate opportunities, so turn to further deviant acts.

Individual's or groups posing an imagined or exaggerated threat to society.

A fear or hatred of followers of Islam/Muslims.

A person, group or organisation with the power to create and enforce rules to impose definitions of deviance.

Public concern about an exaggerated or imaginary threat created and stirred up by the mass media.

Define Primary Deviance
Deviance that has not been publically labelled.

Define Sanctions
The rewards and punishments by which social control is achieved and confromity to norms and values is enforced.

Define Scapegoat
An individual balmed for an action or event, whether or not they are guilty. (Usually are innocent)

Deviance that follows once an individual has been labelled as a deviant.

Acts that are seen by most members of society as devainy.

Define White Collar Crime
Offences committed by middle class individuals, who abuse their work positions for personal gain at the expense of their organisation.

Refers to acts only defined as deviant in certain contexts.
