Socialisation: Installation of shared norms, values and culture, this means that peopel will believe its right to behave in the way the society requires them to.

mechanisms include: rewards or posive sanctions for conformity and punishments (negative sanctions) for devience. These help ensure that indiviudals behave in the way society expects.

Although they see crime and destabalising society they also see it as inevitable and universal. Durkheim: 'crime is normal...an integral part of all healthy societites'

1. Not eveeryone is equally effectively socialised. 2. Diversity of lifestyle and values.

Durkheims view of modern societites
They tend towards anomie or normlessness. the rules governing behvaiour become weaker and less clear cut. this is because of the speicalised didivion of labour which leads to indivudals becoming increasingly different from one another.
