I would use a condenser mic for ambient micing for a small ensamble/choir/orchestra with a piano prehaps and other amcompanying performances for Sweet Folly.

condenser mics usually have a cardiod polar pattern which means they pick up sound from the front and a bit from the side. sound can spill however from everywhere.

Levalier
i would place a levalier mic in the performers hair/costume and on their head using a headset. I would use a levalier mic if the performer was using their hands alot or to create suspension of disbelief. this mic has a omnidirecional.

For close micing a dynamic mic is used because it is least likely to distort under high a spl. this is used for a bass amps/guitar amps and drum kits. these have a cardiod.
