It retrieves data and instructions from the correct location in the memory and then executes those instructions.

They store very small pieces of info. such as: Memory location of next piece of data needed, or the intermediate result of a calculation, or the current instruction being executed

Fetch-Decode-Execute Cycle.

What is the Clock speed and what is it measured in?
It measures the amount of operations the CPU can do- 1 Hz = 1 operation per second, 1 MHz = 1 million operations per second, and 1 GHz = 1 billion operations per second.

Other than Clock speed: Speed of other components, Size of cache, Number of cores

What is the cache and how does the size affect its speed?
Cache memory is high-speed memory that stores frequently needed instructions/data. The larger the cache = the more it can store = the faster the CPU appears to work as it's not waiting so long to receive data/instructions

How does the number of cores affect the CPU?
You should know that a dual-core or quad-core processor is not going to operate 2 or 4 times faster than a single-core processor- Instructions need to be executed in order
