what dose ALU stand for
Arithmetic Logic Unit
1 of 12
what are the three different types of busses in a computer
data bus
address bus
control bus
2 of 12
what does the program counter count
the amount of fetch-decode-execute cycles have been completed, is cleared when the computer powers off
3 of 12
what does the CU(control unit) do
it controls the other hardware of the computer and controls and monitors data
4 of 12
1)what does MAR stand for and what does it do?
2)what does MDR stand for and what does it do?
1)memory address register, it contains the location of the next/in memory data and instructions
2)memory data register, it contains the data/instructions
5 of 12
what is the difference between memory and storage?
memory=temporary, gets wiped when computer loses power
storage=holds data even when it loses power
6 of 12
define embedded systems
a system that only serves one or few functions, usually put together with other embedded systems to create larger devices
7 of 12
what does the accumulator do?
it holds temporary data uses by the ALU to perform equations
8 of 12
what are the 4 things that all computers have to do?
1.recive input data
2.output results/data
3.hold data in some sort of memory or storage
4.prosses data/instructions
9 of 12
what happens in each of the stages of the fetch-decode-execute cycle?
fetch=the address stored in the memory address register in found and the data is collected
decode=the CU decodes the instructions out of binary and then sends the results to the other parts of the CPU
execute=the respective parts of the CPU are used to ex

what are the effects of having more processing cores in your CPU?
1. the CPU can run more programs at once
2. allows the computer to run significantly faster
11 of 12
what are the effects of having bigger cashe?
1. as cashe memory is faster than RAM it decreases the time that it takes to get the next insructions, increasing the speed
2. there is more space for frequently used data/instructions
