Define homeostasis
the maintenance of a constant internal environment

the mechanism by which the body maintains conditions

What happens when we are hot?
We sweat which evaporates and cools. Arterioles dilate bringing them closer to the surface where heat is lost through radiation. Hairs lie flat.

What happens when we are cold?
We shiver so energy is produced in respiration. Arterioles constrict closing offf the blood suppy from the surface Hairs stand up trapping a layer of air.

Where does Homeostasis take place?
Thermoregulatory centre in the brain.

What happens if blood sugar levels get too high?
The pancreas secretes insulin

What happens if blood sugar levels get too low?
The liver stops the pancreas secreting insulin and secretes glucagon

Diabetes
