Chemicals that are released from certain mammalian cells and have an effect on cells in their immediate vacinity. They are typically released by infected or injured cells and cause small arteries and arterioles to dilate.
chemical mediators
1 of 7
Stored in certain white blood cells and released follwing injurty or in response to an allergen e.g. pollen.
histamine
2 of 7
Found in cell memrabes and cause dilation of small arteries and arterioles.
prostaglandins
3 of 7
Surround the axon, protecting it and providing electrical insulation.
schwann cells
4 of 7
Forms a covering to the axon and is made up of the membranes of the Schwann cells.
myelin sheath
5 of 7
When a number of different presynaptic neurones together release enough neurotransmitter to exceed threshold value of postsynaptic neurone. Together they trigger a new action potential.
spatial summation
6 of 7
The synapse in which the neurotransmitter is a chemical called acetylcholine.
cholinergic
7 of 7
