What does convection occur in?
Liquids and gases
1 of 10
When a liquid or a gas is heated, what happens to the particles?
They move faster and the fluid (liquid or gas) expands becomes less dense(compaction of a substance).
2 of 10
Give an example of convection?
Any example like: immersion heaters
3 of 10
What is convection?
Heat transfer in a gas or liquid by the circulation of currents from one region to another.
4 of 10
What cant convection occur in?
Solids
5 of 10
Why cant convection occur in solids?
because the particles are held together tightly on the spot, they can't move.
6 of 10
What do you do to reduce convection?
You need to stop the fluid moving
7 of 10
What rely's on convection? Give an example
Radiators Rely on convection to make the warm air circulate around the room
8 of 10
Briefly describe when convection occurs?
Convection occurs when more energetic particles move from a hotter region to a colder region- and take their heat energy with them.
9 of 10
What is a convection current?
When a gas/liquid is heated the particles move around faster and the fluid expandsbecoming less dense. Less dense fluid rises above cooler denser surrounding. As the warm fluid rises the cooler fluid takes its place. Process goes on=circulation .
