What is phototropism and geotropism?
Phototropism is how a plant is affected by light and geotropism is how a plant is affected by gravity.
1 of 5
What plant hormones are used in agriculture?
Rooting powder (taking a cutting and growing more plants), fruit-ripening hormones (ripening is accelerated or delayed), selective weedkillers, that kill weeds but do not affect desired plants, & germination hormones (force plants out of dormancy).
2 of 5
How do shoots and roots grow?
Shoots are positively phototropic as they grow towards light, but are negatively geotropic as they grow against gravity. Roots are positively geotropic because they grow downwards to absorb water & minerals, yet are negatively phototropic.

What are auxins?
Auxins are plant hormones that affect growth, located in the tip of a shoot. Its distibution is determined by light & can be unequal, as when light shines on one side this inhibits growth so the auxins on the shaded side elongate & grow towards light
4 of 5
What happens during elongation?
Elongation is how the plant lengthens and grows towards light, to increase its chance of survival as it gets light for photosynthesis. When the auxins from the tip are cut off the plant can no longer grow.
