It is an ideology that supports a society working together to achieve the well being of all its members. It fights marginalisation and exclusion. This promotes trust and a sense of belonging.

They are suspicious of change because it creates insecurity in vulnerable/weak humans. They believe that any change must be slow not radical.

It links with nationalisation and patriotism. It means that those with money/power have an obligation to look after the less fortunate.

The state needs to act as a father figure to flawed citizens telling them what to do and 'regulating their behaviour'.

They believe that the role of the state 'must be limited' so as to provide citizens with as much freedom as possible.
