Compliance
A person publicly conforms with the behaviour or views of the majority whilst disagreeing privately. This is a short term behavioural change.

Identification
Another type of conformity which involves a person taking on the views and/or behaviour of a group they join or admire.

Internalisation
This is a deeper level of conformity and involves the person changing both their public and private views. This change is likely to be permanent.

Normative Influence
This occurs when someone conforms in order to gain liking or respect from others.

Informative Influence
This occurs when someone conforms because others are thought to possess more knowledge.

Majority Influence
This occurs when people adopt the behaviour, attitudes, or values of the majority after being exposed to their values or behaviour.

Minority Influence
A majority being influenced to accept the beliefs or behaviour of a minority. This usually involves a shift in private opinion, as the majority needs to accept the minority as 'right' in order to reject the dominant majority.

Features of an experiment that help participants to work out what is expected of them, and lead them to behave in certain predictable ways.
