?
Hardware
Physical parts of a computer System
1 of 17
Input Device
A Peripheral unit that can accept data, presented in the appropriate machine - readable form, decode it and transmit it as electrical pulses to the CPU
2 of 17
Storage Device
A peripheral unit that allows the user to store data in an electrical form for a longer period of time and when the computer is turned off. The data can be read only by the computer and is not in human readable form
3 of 17
Output Device
A Peripheral unit that translates signal from the computer into a human - readable form or into a form suitable for re-processing by the computer at a later date
4 of 17
Applications Software
Designed to carry out a task that would be carried out even if the computer didnt excist ( e.g. Keeping accounts or editing text)
5 of 17
Systems Software
Designed to organise/utilise and control hardware, set of programs that enable your computer's hardware devices and the application software to work together
6 of 17
Validation
Uses properties of the data to identify errors in the imputing process
7 of 17
Range check
Reject data outside an expected range
8 of 17
Presence check
Reject group of data if required fields have been left blank
9 of 17
Length Check
Ensure that data has been entered at reasonable length or required length
10 of 17
Type check
Ensure Data is of a particular type
11 of 17
Format Check
Ensure Data item matched a required/set pattern of input and that particular characters have particular/specific values
12 of 17
Verification
Make sure Data is Consistent and has not been corrupted
13 of 17
Check sum
Added up at start and destination then sent back to origin for both totals to be compared and checked
14 of 17
Parity Check
Bit in each byte is reversed to be the parity bit, this being set to 1 or 0 depending on the data
15 of 17
Echo back
simple way of checking data it's sent back again. If it is sent back the same as what was sent origionally then it is correct if not it is sent again
16 of 17
Check Digit
Extra digits added as part of numerical data item
