Computing Representing Data

?
Colour Depth
Refers to the number of bits used to represent the colour of each individual pixel. The more colours, the more bits needed so the larger the file size (and the more space you need to save it)
1 of 14
Binary Addition - Overflow
When you add numbers together and the answer won't fit into the number of binary digits (you need an extra binary digit)
2 of 14
Truth Table
A table that contains all of the inputs and output combinations for a logical gate.
3 of 14
ASCII
A relatively simple character set that can represent 128 different characters
4 of 14
Instructions and Data
When the CPU fetches data it will be treated as an instruction or just data
5 of 14
Resolution
Describes the quality of an image. Measure in DPI (dots per inch)/pixels. The higher the resolution the bigger the file size (and the more space you need to save it)
6 of 14
Unicode
An industry-standard character set that can represent thousands of different characters
7 of 14
Hexadecimal
Binary numbers get very big and difficult to use and remember. It is easier for programmers to convert between binary and hexadecimal than binary and denary
8 of 14
Hardware
All the physical parts in a computer system e.g. motherboard, keyboard, mouse
9 of 14
Binary Units
1 byte = 8 bits. 1 kilobyte = 1024 bytes. 1 megabyte = 1024 kilobytes. 1 gigabyte = 1024 megabytes. 1 terabyte = 1024 gigabytes
10 of 14
Character sets
A standard that converts all characters on a normal keyboard into binary codes for the computer to understand e.g. ASCII and Unicode
11 of 14
Software
Programs, apps. Software is the programs that run on a computer.
12 of 14
Metadata
Information about the image that allows a computer to recreate the image from binary e.g. the height, width, colour depth
13 of 14
Industry Standards
Mostly hardware standards that lots of companies agree to follow. For example USB Ports
