How is a picture stored?
Computers are digital, they can only handle binary numbers. So if an image is to be handled by a computer, the analogue image has to be converted into a set of binary numbers. i.e you 'digitise' an image with some imput device

What is lossless compression?
In lossless compression when the file is compressed, it would be an exact copy of the original and wouldn't loose any detail at all.
10 of 14
What is lossy compression?
In lossy compression, when the file is compressed, it would look exactly the same but it would loose some detail.
