Read only memory (ROM)
Memory read at high speed but not capable of being changed by program instructions.
1 of 14
Hardware
The machines, wiring, and other physical components of a computer or other electronic system.
2 of 14
Central processing unit (CPU)
The brain of the computer. It works very quickly and constantly asks for the next piece of data to process.
3 of 14
Non - volatile
It keeps data in the computers memory even if the power is cut.
4 of 14
Volatile
Computer storage which only maintains data when power is added to the device.
5 of 14
Random access memory (RAM)
The most common type of memory found in a computer. Data can be accessed randomly
6 of 14
Input
When data is put into the device.
7 of 14
Output
When data is taken out from the device.
8 of 14
Single processor
When only one instruction can be run at one time.
9 of 14
Quad core processors
When 4 instructions can be run at the same time and it is quick.
10 of 14
Dual processors
When two instructions can be run at the same time.

Hard disk drive (HDD) or solid state drive (SSD)
The operating system designates part of one of these two as a virtual memory that can be used as RAM as a temporary extension.
12 of 14
Operating system
A low-level software that supports a computer's basic functions, such as scheduling tasks.
13 of 14
Hard diskdrive (HDD)
It's a stack of magnetic platters or plates. These platters spin up to 10,000 revolutions per minute. Mechanical arms go across the disk to read the data.
