Written in 1948 by 42 countries of UN after WW2 / 30 Articles and rights written

Right to Liberty / Freedom -

Freedom from unreasonable detention or to be imprisoned without reason

Amnesty International -

1960 - 2 Portuguese students toasted Human Rights and were arrested / Set up by Peter Benson to defend Human Rights / Campaign to raise awareness / Speeches / Government letters / Run school programs etc

Christian Attitudes to Human Rights -

Gives Dignity and Agape - 'God created mankind in his own image' / Christians disagree with prejudice and Injustice -'you are all one in Jesus' / Ethical considerations of the acquisition of wealth - Lazarus and the rich man

Muslim Attitudes to Human Rights -

Promotion of the Rights of the Ummah - 'Whoever saves one, it is as if he has saved mankind entirely / Muslims disagree with Prejudice and Discrimination -'Do not let the hatred of people prevent you from being just

Malala Yousafzai -

Human Rights campaigner for rights of education for everyone / She was stopped from getting education by taliban / Stood up for her beliefs / Won a Nobel Peace Prize

Oscar Romero -

Archbishop of El Salvador / El Salvador full of corruption / Spoke out in Church and broadcasted his teachings / Eventually killed because of his personal conviction

Westboro Baptist Church -

Spread controversial views which are 'based on the word of God'/ Against Homosexuality etc / Spread their personal Conviction

Refuse military service / Believe it is wrong due to their personal conviction

The practice of suppressing and limiting access to materials that are considered a threat

Acts of threatening groups of people or individuals differently based on prejudice

Pre-judging - Judging people to be inferior or superior without cause

Christian Attitudes towards Discrimination -

Everyone is equal an sacred / Leviticus encourages the acceptance of strangers / Jesus showed love to outsiders / However, contrast views of women taking leadership roles in church

Muslim Attitudes towards Discrimination -

Allah made everyone equal / During Hajj all Muslims dress the same - Equal in Allah's eyes / Women cannot be imams or pray with men in Mosque / Everyone must look out for and support the Ummah

Discrimination towards people based on their race

Agape -

Selfless and unconditional love / The highest form of love

Dignity -

Being worthy of Honour and respect

Ecumenical -

Representing or promoting unity between different Christian denominations

Empowerment -

Authority or power given to someone to do something

Oppressed -

Governed or treated with cruelty or injustice

Relative Poverty -

A standard of poverty measured in relation to the standards of society in which a person lives

Absolute Poverty -

An acute state of deprivation whereby a person cannot access the mast basic of their human rights

Christian Views on Wealth -

Some don't encourage gambling - promotes wealth causing happiness / Jesus taught that wealth leads to greed / Parable of sheep and goat / Lazarus and the poor man / Christian charities exist - Christian Aid

Muslim Views on Wealth -

Receiving interest is Haram / Gambling is forbidden / Zakat must be given / Khums is an additional payment / Zakat-ul-fitr - an additional donation after Ramadan / Islamic Relief - Charity
