They met at the Geneva and Reykjavik summit- no agreement but they established a good relationship. They signed the INF treaty in 1987 which removed all intermediate range nuclear missiles. 1989, Gorbachev withdrew soviet troops from Afghan.

In July 1991, Poland and Hungary rejected communism therefore the pact no longer had a purpose and military cooperation ceased in early 1990.
