Name an advantage of living in a cold environment.
Resource exploitation, including agriculture, recreation and tourism. Economic benefits include employment, spending in the local economy, multiplier effect, and improved infrastructure. Many cold environments are increasingly important economically.

Name a disadvantage of living in a cold environment.
Extreme low temperatures, low precipitation, variable daylight hours. Construction disrupts and melts the permafrost, creating unstable ground. Exposure to extreme cold can injure and kill, and healthcare may be many miles away.
