To test displacement theory using word lists investigating whether the words at the beginning are recalled less than those at the end.

For 1-10 of the word list the mean number of words recalled was 3.5 and for 11-20 the mean number of words recalled was 6.2

What conclusions did you draw from your findings?
Displacement does take place and more words were remembered from group two showing evidence for displacement theory.

What was a problem you found with the practical?
I may have been testing primacy recency effect rather than displacement theory.

How could this problem be solved?
Next time I could test primacy recency effect using the same method because it may be more appropriate for primacy recency rather than displacement.

Was your study generalisable?
It is only generalisable to year 8 male students at a grammar school, it does not generalise to girls or students at comprehensive schools.

Was the experiment valid?
The experiment was artifical task wise therefore lacking in ecological validity and lacked in internal validity because it was more appropriate for testing primacy recency.
