Coasts-Quantitive Skills

?
Quantitive
Numerical Data
1 of 5
Beach profile
– A transect should be taken along a bearing and ranging rods placed into the sand at the same depth every 10m. Clinometers should then be used to measure the elevation between the two rods.
2 of 5
Measuring Cliffs
Measure a 10m distance from the base of the cliff and then using a clinometer measure the angle to the top of the cliff. You then need to measure the height of the eye level of the person who used the clinometer. Height of the cliff is then calculate
3 of 5
Size of sediment
Stones should be taken and the length and width of each stone should be measured using a tape measure - If sediments are too small to measure with a ruler then sediments should be sieved (after being dried) to establish their size
4 of 5
Shape of sediment
Rocks should be observed and given a rating using a roundness index such as Powers
