What 3 things does the amount of energy a wave has depend on?
Wind strength, length of time wind is blowing for, fetch
1 of 12
What are the types of waves?
Constructive and destructive
2 of 12
How does the swash approach the beach and how does this relate to the backwash?
Swash approaches at an angle and backwash goes back perpendicular to the beach
3 of 12
Give 3 characteristics of constructive waves
Small in height, strong swash, little energy
4 of 12
Give 3 characteristics of destructive waves
Large in hiehgt, weak swash, strong backwash
5 of 12
Give 3 factors that affect the speed that a coastline is eroded
rock type, wave type, human activity
6 of 12
Do headlands or bays have more resistant rock?
Headland - chalk
7 of 12
How are stacks formed?
Crakcs in headland due to waves, they expand and make a cave that contines to erode. Arch is fromed that widens and eventually breaks, leaving a stack
8 of 12
How are wave-cut ntoches formed?
Waves erode cliff bottom and undercuts the cliff, making it have a break in it
9 of 12
How do wave cut notches lead to wave cut platforms?
When the break in the cliff gets to deep, the rock above collapses and material is carried away. The sea erodes ahead not down so wave cut platforms appear because the rock beneath hasnt been eroded
10 of 12
Give 3 reasons why deposition occurs
Little/no wind, shallow water, waves loose energy
11 of 12
What needs to be considered when constructing sea defences
cost and benefit
