5 sensorary organs
eye, nose, skin, tongue and ear
1 of 14
Receptors sensitive to...
Skin- touch and pressure, pain, temperature | Ear - sounds, pressure, balance | Eye - light | Nose- chemicals for smell | Tongue - dissolved chemicals
2 of 14
CNS - central nervous system
your nervous system carries fast electrical impulses. Changes in the environment are picked up by your CNS and impulses travel along your receptors to your neurons
3 of 14
reflexes work
1st stimulus occurs and receptor feels pain. Sensory neurons send signals to CNS. CNS thinks solution and sends signal to Motor Neurone which carries message to effector. Effector thinks of reflex to pain.
4 of 14
Hormones
chemical substances thata coordinate processes in your body. Made and released by special glands, carried in lood stream to target organ
5 of 14
The menstrual cycle
a recurring process in which the lining of the womb is prepared for pregnancy. if pregnancy doesn't happen the lining sheds
6 of 14
Hormone FSH
causes an egg to mature in the ovary and stimulates the ovaries to release oestrogen
7 of 14
Hormone Oestrogen
stops fsh being produced so then only one egg matures in a cycle and stimulates pituitary gland to make LH
8 of 14
Hormone LH
causes the matured egg to be released from ovary
9 of 14
Hormone Progesterone
plays a key role in bodly functions
10 of 14
The contraceptive pill
reduces the chances of mature eggs being produced (the pill). Contains oestrogen or progesterone. These hormones inhibit the production of fsh stopping eggs maturing in ovaries. Side effects in mood, wight, blood pressure
11 of 14
IVF
where the egg is fertilised outside the womans body then put back in her utuerus
12 of 14
Homeostatis
the way the body keeps a constant internal environment
13 of 14
Hypothalamus
a part of the brain that monitors the blood temperature
