What is the process of tissue culture?
1) Choose plants with desired characteristics. 2) A large number of small pieces of tissue are taken from the parent plant. 3) They are put into sterile test tubes that contain a growth medium.
1 of 6
What are the advantages and disadvantages of cloning plants?
Cloning produces lots of plants quickly and they all have the desired characteristics. But because they are genetically identical to one another this reduces variation, making them susceptible to disease.

What is the process of cloning?
First take an egg cell from the animal you want to clone: keep the nucleus but discard the empty cell. Then take an egg cell from another animal and remove the nucleus. Put the nucleus into the egg cell, placing the cloned cell into a surrogate.
3 of 6
Why have animals only recently been cloned?
This is because it is harder to clone animals as most animal cells have lost the ability to differentiate. But most plant cells retain this ability.

What is the process of taking a cutting?
1) A short stem is cut off the parent plant. 2) The end of the stem is dipped into rooting powder. 3) The cutting is put into a pot of soil. 4) It is also covered by a polythene bag, which locks moisture.

What are the benefits and risks of cloning animals?
Cloning results in a large number of animals with desired characteristics; cloned pigs would supply organs & diseases could be treated using cloned embryonic stem cells. But cloning raises moral & ethical dilemmas & there is a low success rate.
