Clinical Significance of Neural System Development

?
Spinal Bifida
Abnormal neuraltion occurred by neural tube defects. Failure of the caudual neural pore to close affects the overlying tissues. 3 Types of occulta, meningocele, myelomeningocele. Can cause complications with the brain.
1 of 6
Exencephaly
When the brain protrudes out of the skull.
2 of 6
Anencephaly
Complete absence of forebrain, prevented by folic acids supplementation.
3 of 6
Waardenburg Syndrome
A 4 gene mutation involved in the neural crest migration. Results inn patches of white hair/skin, hearing loss, cleft lip and palate.
4 of 6
DiGeorge Syndrome
Abnormal neural crest migration. Results in developmental abnormalities in parathyroid glands, thymus and facial skeleton.
5 of 6
Hirschprung's Disease
Caused by a failed neural crest migration, the enteric nervous system doesn't form. Large colon can't relax leading to intestinal blockages.
