What are arthropods?
Arthropods are invertebrates that belong to the animal kingdom; they have joined legs, a segmented body and a hard exoskeleton made of chitin. They can be sub-grouped into insects, arachnids, crustaceans and myriapods.

Why are some organisms difficult to classify?
Organisms are difficult to classify as they are constantly changing, due to evolution. E.g. bacteria reproduces asexually so it cannot be classified into different species'. DNA sequencing has enabled scientists to become certain of common ancestors.

What is artificial and natural classification?
Artificial classification is based on a few simple characteristics, which make classification easier. E.g. puffins and penguins are 'seabirds' because they live near the sea. However, natural classification is about evolution, according to ancestors.

What are the 5 kingdoms?
Organisms can be separated into the 5 kingdoms of plants, like trees and wheat, animals, such as lions and slugs, fungi (yeast and moulds), protoctista, for example algae and Amoeba, and prokaryotes, like bacteria.
