Classification and Biodiversity PART 1.1

?
Name all five kingdoms of living organisms
Animalia, Plantae, Prokaryota, fungi and Protoctista
1 of 14
What does Animalia consist of and what general information can you provide?
Animalia consist of multi cellular organisms. They cannot make their own food but rely on other living organisms to sustain them.
2 of 14
What does Fungi consist of and what general information can you provide?
Fungi, unlike plants cannot make their own food. They rely on other food sources to sustain them.
3 of 14
What does Plantae consist of and what general information can you provide?
Plants consists of multi cellular organisms. They use the light energy to produce their own food.
4 of 14
What does Protoctista consist of and what general information can you provide?
Protoctista consists of more complex unicellular life forms- life forms with only one nucleus.
5 of 14
What does Prokaryota consist of and what general information can you provide?
Prokaryota consists of life forms that have only one very simple cell. These cells have no nucleus or mitochondria.
6 of 14
Each kingdom can be divided into smaller groups. The animal kingdom contains 5 different types of animals, name them.
Fish, birds, amphibian, reptiles and mammals.
7 of 14
What are the characteristics of the fish group?
Fishes have scales on their bodies and gills for gas exchange. Do not maintain body temperature above surroundings.
8 of 14
What are the characteristics of the reptiles group?
Reptiles have dry scaly skin. Lay hard shelled eggs on land. Do not. Maintain body temperature above surroundings.
9 of 14
What are the characteristics of the mammals group?
Mammals have fur or hair covering the body. Give birth to live young and feed them on milk.
10 of 14
What are the characteristics of the amphibians group?
Amphibians have moist skin. Lay eggs in water. Do not maintain body temperature above surroundings.
11 of 14
What are the characteristics of the bird group?
Birds have feathers, wings and beaks. Lay hard shelled eggs. Maintain body temperature above surroundings.
12 of 14
What is a key?
A key allows organisms to be separated based on their physical characteristics.
13 of 14
Practise drawing a key showing different types of leaves.
