WHAT IS Circadian Rhythm
circadian rhythm is based around our sleep-wake cycle • it is essentially our body clock (24hr rhythm – sleep-wake cycle) • we usually sleep at night and wake in the morning, and during sleep go through 5 sleep cycles

WHEN DO PROBLEMS OCCUR WITH CIRCADIAN RHYTHUM
problems can occur when people have changing shifts at work as it means they have to keep changing their sleep times • can be treated by using bright lights at certain times to reset the body clock

when does the body go through Ultradian Rhythm
Every 90 to 110 minutes, the human body goes through an Ultradian Rhythm.

what happens at the end of each ultradian rhythume
At the end of each Ultradian Rhythm, there is a short period of wakefulness when the person can adjust their sleep position before falling back into sleep.

whats responsible for our body's daily cycle,
Melatonin which is produced in the pineal gland.

when does the production of melatonin, the hormone responsible for making us feel sleepy, go up.
When night falls and there is less light input to the SCN,

when is melatonin secreted
When it's dark,more melatonin is secreted, which signals the brain to go into sleep mode. When the sun rises, melatonin secretion is inhibited, and the brain's awake circuits resume.
