Quis enim toto mari locus per hos annos aut tam firmum habuit praesidium ut tutus esset
For what sort of place through these years had in the whole of the sea such strong protection so as to be safe

aut tam fuit abditus ut lateret? Quis navigavit qui non se aut mortis aut servitutis periculo committeret, cum aut hieme aut referto praedonum mari navigaret?
or was so secret as to lie hidden? Who is there who sailed and not committed himself to the danger of death or slavery, since he must sail either in winter or in seas manifested with pirates?
