structure and tonality
ternary form( ABA). A-d flat major. B-much longer, mostly c sharp minor. final A- much shorter, d flat major. concludes with a codetta in D flat major

based on diatonic harmonies. first 10 bars entirely diatonic. keeping with harmonic trends od the romantic period, uses chromatic harmonies to, e.g. c flat in bar 12 creates a minor chord instead of the major chord in bar 9

opening- graceful and simple, repeating A flat creates the feel of gently falling rain. soft dynamics. middle section- minor keys makes mood sombre and grey. tremendous build in dynamics creates stormy effect.

opens with a descending motive. covers the interval of a 6th. middle section based on a chorale like melody
