Intonation: what is the tone like in child-directed speech?
The tone is exaggerated and words are stressed. Words are stressed more strongly than in an all adult conversation

What is the use of repeated words and phrases?
Repitition is needed for reinforcement: E.g= "get the ball, Annie, get the ball". Could be used as sometimes the child cant take in all what is said.

What is the pace like?
Is much slower, so the child can take in and process all the information, and has longer pauses than in adult speech

Description of the pitch in cds?
Is usually higher, to give praise to the child.

Use of people's names...
Parent's often use the child's name instead of pronouns.

Why is simplified vocabularyoften used in an adult- child conversation?
Parents use simplified vocabulary, to converge their language to the child. (Howard Giles accommodation theory). E.g= instead of saying 'banana', a parent may say 'nana' instead.

Reduplication-->
Parents use repeated consonant/vowel combinations such as 'din-din', 'choo-choo' and 'ma-ma'.

Frequent use of diminutives
e.g= birdie, doggie. Makes the concrete noun seem smaller than it is.

Omitted auxillary verbs...
Gives a simpler sentence structure. E.g= 'Annie, shall we go for a walk?' is turned into 'Annie go for walk?'

What type of tense is usually used?
The present tense is used more frequently than the past. The caregiver (which is the parent or teacher for instance) is often used, as it describes what's happening 'now'.

Frequent use of interrogatives...
are used to encourage the child's response.

What is recasting?
recasting is when the adult repeats what the child has said, representing the information in a different way.
