What is creative play?
Allows children to use their ideas to make something

What activities are involved in creative play?
Drawing and painting, modelling, collages, sewing etc

What is imaginative play?
Is pretend or imitative play. The child plays in a make-believe world and its imaginary ideas become strong and real.

What activities are involved in imaginative play?
Dressing up, play houses, masks or face paints.

What is physical play?
Exercises the child's limbs, develops muscles and gives practice in climbing and balancing.

What activities are involved in physical play?
Riding bikes, adventure playgrounds, going to the park, playing with a ball, swimming

What is manipulative play?
Encourages children to use its hands skilfully and to develop hand-eye co-ordination.

What activities are involved in manipulative play?
Building bricks, posting boxes, toy tool sets, jigsaw puzzles, threading beads.

What is solitary play and when does it occur?
When the child plays alone paying no attention to other children, this occurs under the age of 2 years.

What is parallel play and when does it occur?
The child plays alongside other children but is still unable to co-operate and share toys with them. Between 2-3 years.

What is social/co-operative play and when does it occur?
The child is willing to share and co-operate with other children. They can play together without the constant supervision of an adult. After the age of 3 years.

What is the CE symbol?
The manufacturer's declaration that the product meets the requirements.

What is the lion mark?
It means that consumers can be assured that a toy which bears the Lion Mark has been made by a member who believes in making good, safe toys.

How do children learn?
By asking questions, exploration, repetition, observation, imitation/copying
