Atoms lose or gain electrons to form charged particles (ions) which are then strongly attached to one another (because of the attraction of opposite charges, + and -).

How do you measure rate of a reaction? Give 3 ways.
-Precipitation -Change in mass (usually gas given off) -The volume of gas given off.

How does a higher temperature increase the rate of reaction?
If temperature is increased, the particles all move quicker, which means more collisions per second. And more collisions increases the rate of reaction.

How does a higher concentration (or pressure) increase collisions?
If a solution is made more concentrated it means there are more particles of reactant knocking about between the water molecules which makes collisions between the important particles more likely.

How does a larger surface area increase collisions?
If one of the reactants is a solid then breaking it up into smaller peaces will increase the total surface area. This means the particles around it in the solution will have more area to work on, so there'll be more frequent collisions.
