5 of 23
Ionic bonding
Bonding in which there is a transfer of electrons from one atom to another to produce ions.
6 of 23
Metallic bonding
An array of positive ions in a 'sea' of delocalised electrons.
7 of 23
Catalyst
A substance that speeds up a chemical reaction but is not used up.
8 of 23
Acid rain
water and oxygen in the atmosphere react with sulfur dioxide to produce sulfuric acid, or with various oxides of nitrogen.
9 of 23
Electrolysis
A chemical change caused by passing an electric current through a compound which is either molten or in solution.
10 of 23
Electrolyte
A substance that undergoes electrolysis.

Exothermic
A reaction that gives out heat.
14 of 23
Endothermic
A reaction that absorbs energy (often heat).
15 of 23
Reversible reaction
A reaction where the products of the reaction can react to produce the original reactants.
