What does the relative atomic mass do?
It compares the mass of atoms of the element with the Carbon (12) isotope. It is a weighted average value for the isotopes of the element.
1 of 11
What is the relative formula mass?
It is the sum of the relative atomic masses of the atoms in the numbers shown in the formula.
2 of 11
What is one mole of a substance?
It is the amount of the substance containing the same number of particles as there are carbon atoms in 12g of carbon-12. It contains 6*10to the power of 23 particles (Avogadro's number)
3 of 11
What is the molar mass?
It is the relative formula mass or relative atomic mass expressed in grams.
4 of 11
Number of moles =...
mass / Mr or Ar
5 of 11
How can the percentage of an element in a compound be calculated?
From the relative mass of an element in the formula an the relative mass of a compound
6 of 11
What is the empirical formula?
It is the simplest whole-number ratio of the atoms in the compound. It can be calculated from the masses or percentages of the elements in a compound
7 of 11
What is the yield?
It is the amount of a product obtained.
8 of 11
Why is impossible to obtain the calculated amount of product?
The reaction may not go to completion as it's reversible, some of the product may be lost when it is separated from the reaction mixture, some of the reactants may react in ways different from the expected reaction
9 of 11
How do you calculate how much to react and how much we can produce?
Using the relative formula masses
10 of 11
What is the percentage yield?
The amount od product actually obtained from a reaction as a percentage of the maximum theoretical yield
