Metallic bonds give the metal a giant structure consisting of positive ions and free electrons. This creates a 'sea' of delocalised electrons throughout the metal which makes it a good conductor of electricity.

The higher up an element in group 7 is, the more reactive it is. This is because the outer shell is nearer to the nucleus, so the pull from the positive nucleus is greater which attracts extra electrons more strongly.

What is a displacement reaction?
If a reactive element comes into contact with the compound of a less reactive element a chemical reaction may take place. The less reactive element is removed from the compound and replaced by the more reactive element.

How would you measure the temperature change during a neutralisation reaction?
You can measure the amount of energy produced by a chemical reaction in a solution by taking the temperature of the reactants, mixing them and then measuring the temperature of the solution at the end of the reaction.

What are the four factors that affect the rate of reaction?
Temperature, concentration (pressure for gases), catalyst and surface area of a solid (or size of particles)

Temperature - When the temperature is increased the particles move quicker. Concentration - The higher the concentration the more particles of a reactant there are. Surface Area - The particles have a larger surface area to react with.

Percentage yield = actual yield (grams) / Theoretical yield (grams) X 100

Percentage yield tells you about the overall success of an experiment. It compares what you think you should get (theoretical yield) with what you get in practice (actual yield)
