Chemistry C2: Rates & Energy

?
What is meant by rate of reaction?
Rate of reaction is the time for reactants to turn into products
1 of 8
How can we find the rate of reaction?
Rate of reaction = Amount of product formed ÷ Time
2 of 8
How can we find rate of reaction using a graph?
We can find the gradient of a line graph at three points and find an average.
3 of 8
Which five factors affect rate of reaction?
Temperature, surface area, concentration, pressure, catalyst.
4 of 8
What is collision theory?
Collision theory states that particles must collide with enough energy in order to react. By increasing kinetic energy of particles, reaction rate increases.
5 of 8
What is activation energy?
Activation energy is the smallest amount of energy particles must have before they can collide & react.
6 of 8
A reaction releases energy to the environment, causing a rise in the temperature of the surroundings. What type of reaction is this?
Exothermic.
7 of 8
A reaction absorbs energy to the environment, causing a fall in temperature of surroundings. what type of reaction is this
Endothermic.
