What is relative atomic mass?
Ar- it is how heavy the atom is compared to the mass of an atom of carbon-12. It is the same as the mass number
1 of 9
What is the relative formula mass?
Mr- The sum of all the relative atomic masses added together in a compound
2 of 9
What is the realtionship between moles and Mr?
The relative formula mass of a substance in grams is known as one mole of that substance
3 of 9
Number of moles =
Mass in g (of element or compound)/Mr( of element or compound)
4 of 9
What is an empirical forumla
The simplest form of the ratio between the elements in a compound
5 of 9
What is the method for finding the empirical formula?
1. List the elements. 2. Write the experimental mass. 3. Divide by the Ar for thar element. 4. Creat a simple ratio. 5. Find the simplest form of the ratio, this is the empirical formula
6 of 9
What are three factors that can reduce the percentage yield of a reaction
The reaction may be reversible, some may be lost when its seperated, some reactants may react in different ways than expected
7 of 9
How do you calculate the percentage yield?
actual yield (g)/predicted yield (g) x 100
8 of 9
What is a reversible reaction?
Where the products of the reaction can themselves react to produce the original reactants.
