How does the compound enter the mass spec?
as a gas or vapour?
1 of 7
How many peaks?
Many
2 of 7
Stages?
ionisation,accleration,deflection,detection.
3 of 7
Why is there lots of peaks in a compound?
Forms molecular ions, Many of them break up into fragments as their bonds break when they are ionised. We therefore get ions with a smaller Mass and therefore smaller M/Z value.
4 of 7
What is the proccess called?
Fragmentation
5 of 7
What is the peak called that corosponds to the Mr? How do we find it?
molecular ion peak- the main peak to the right hand side.
6 of 7
What is the base peak?
Molecular ion with the tallest peak.
