?
How is acid rain formed?
Power stations and vehicles release gases which go into the atmosphere. The sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are made. Oxididation in clouds produces sulphuric and nitric acid, then the acid pollutes the air. It condenses and forms rain becomes po
1 of 11
Acid rain effects?
Soils are polluted, acid rain leaches aluminium from soil, crops and rivers ruined.
2 of 11
Soils, contents (what is it made from)?
Roots, microorganisims, rotting organic matter, compost, salt, water, different sized-stones, poo, nutrients, sand, clay, oxygen, worms, humus.
3 of 11
What to do for Testing plants for acidity?
Red cabbage, or find soil sample put water on it, take a sample and put a few drops of universal indicator into the soil sample of water to determine pH.
4 of 11
Greenhouse gases
Greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide
5 of 11
Climate change
CO2 levels are rising because of burning fossil fuels, transport, for generating electricity, deforestation (forests chopped down so less CO2 being used for photosynthesis), natural causes (animal respiration and volcanic eruption).
6 of 11
Greenhouse effect
Is caused by car exhausts an factory fumes which rises to Earth s atmosphere. Sun's rays shine on Earth and greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide absorbs some of the heat and some heat escapes into space. This keeps the Earth warm.
7 of 11
Ozone
It is a colourless, odourless, gas made of 3 oxygen atoms, also a harmful air pollutant.
8 of 11
Global warming
Effects of global warming are polar ice caps melting, high temperature, violent weather, extinction of species, change of crop patterns and less fossil fuels.
9 of 11
Destroying ozone
Thin layer of stratosphere, getting thinner due to ultraviolet radiation (UV), can damage skin. Ozone gas can react with haemoglobin in blood and suffocate us.
10 of 11
Ozone Gas
Can cause breathing problems because it reacts with the haemoglobin inside blood which carries oxygen around body and suffocate us. Produced by air reacting with traffic fumes.
