Why do ionic compounds have high m.p and b.p
Because of the strong electrostatic forces between them, it takes a great deal of energy to seperate the positive and negative ions in a lattice .this means they have high melting points and boling point.
1 of 6
Why do substances with simple molecular structures have low m.p and b.p?
This is because the weak intermolecular forces break down easily.
2 of 6
Why dont covalent structure conduct electricity?
Because covalent compounds have no free electrons and no ions so they dont conduct electricity.
3 of 6
Why do metals have high m.p and b.p?
The particles in a metal are held together by metallic bonds and metallic bonds are strong and a lot of energy is neede to break them
4 of 6
Why are metals malleable?
Metals are malleable because they consist of layers of atoms. These layers can slide over one another when the metal is bent , hamperred or pressed.
5 of 6
Why do metals conduct electricity?
Metals contain electrons that are free to move in the metal structure , carrying charge from place to place and allowing metals to conduct electricity well.
