How do you work out percentage yield?
actual yield divided by predicted yield x 100
1 of 5
Why will you never get 100% yield? Give four reasons.
1. unexpected side reactions will create unexpected products. 2. reaction is reversible (some product has been converted back into reactant) 3. some of the product is lost when it is separated out. 4. there will be impurities in the reactants.
2 of 5
How do you work out the numbers of moles in an element or compound?
Mass (in grams) divided by Mr (relative formula mass)
3 of 5
How do you work of the number of moles in an atom?
Mass (in grams) divided by Ar (relative atomic mass)
4 of 5
What is an isotope?
Different atomic forms of the same element with the same number of protons but a different number of neutrons (and therefore a different mass number)
