what are isotopes?
different atomic forms of the same element, which have the same number of protons, but different neutrons
1 of 7
how do you calculate the number of neutrons?
subtract the atomic number from the mass number
2 of 7
What is ionic bonding?
transfering electrons between a metal and a non-metal
3 of 7
explain a gaint ionic lattice
regular structure/ high melting point/ free ions conduct electricity/ disolve easily.
4 of 7
what is covalent bonding?
when electrons are shared between two or more non-metals
5 of 7
explain giant covalent srtuctures
very strong/ strong intermolecular bonds.
6 of 7
explain graphites properties
only 3 carbon bonds/ free electon conducts electricity/ lose layers which rub off on paper.
