Chemistry - Metals and Non-metals

?
What are metalloides?
The line of elements that seperate metals from non-metals. They are also referred to as semi-metals.
1 of 5
Give some of the properties of metalloides.
All solids at room temperature. Some can act as electrical conductors under the right conditions. They share properties of metals and non metals, e.g. silicon may appear lustrous like metals but is brittle like non metals.
2 of 5
If we have a sample of unknownium oxide, how can we figure out whether unknownium is a metal or non-metal using universal indicator?
Non-metals form acidic oxides and metals form basic oxides. Non-metal oxides turn the universal indicator red and metal oxides turn universal indicator blue.
3 of 5
What happens to the electrons when a metal bonds with a non-metal?
The metal loses (transfers) it's electrons to the non-metal (which gains the electrons)
4 of 5
How do we know an element is a metal using the atomic structure.
Metals have to give away electrons from their outer shells through bonding meaning they form positive ions.
