Ions
Atoms can lose or gain elctrons in order to hve a full outer energy level. They then become charged oartcals called ions
1 of 9
Metals
lose electrons , form positive ions (cations)
2 of 9
Non-metals
gain electrons , form negative ions (anions)
3 of 9
Ionic bonding 1
Metals transfer electons to non-metals to form anions and cations.
4 of 9
Ionic bonding 2
anions and cations are oppositly charged
5 of 9
Ionic bonding 3
so that means they are attracted to eachother
6 of 9
Ionic bonding 4
this attraction forms an ionic bond
7 of 9
Ionic bonding 5
Ionic bonds are strong
