What is a chemical bond
Holds two atoms together after a reaction
1 of 16
Ionic bond
Between metal and non metal held together by strong ectrostatic forces of attraction between positive and negative ions
2 of 16
Covalent bond
Between two non metals, electrons shared
3 of 16
Structural formula
A diagram which shows which atoms are bonded to which
4 of 16
Electronic theory
States what when atoms react they loose, gain or share electrons to become stable
5 of 16
Giant ionic lattice
Regular structure made from oppositely charged ions
6 of 16
Valency
Number of electrons available for bonding, ironically or covelantelly
7 of 16
Simple moldecule
Small molecules with covalent bonds and just a few atoms
8 of 16
Intermolecular forces
Weak attraction forces between molecules
9 of 16
Giant covalent structure
large numbers of atoms joined by covalent bonds
10 of 16
Allotropes
Different crystalline forms of the same material e.g. Graphite and diamond
11 of 16
Fullerene
An allotrope of carbon
12 of 16
Buckyballs
A fullerene which formula C60
13 of 16
Giant metallic structure
Positive metal ions surrounded by a seas of delocalised electrons
14 of 16
Malleable
Property of metal meaning it can be shaped
15 of 16
