Chemistry C2 A

?
Relative Formula Mass
Is the Relative Atomic Mass(the number of protons & neutrons) of each atom added up.For example; CO2: C=Ram 12& O2= 16 x 2 = 32... So 32+12=48
1 of 6
Calculating Percentage Mass
1.Write out the formula (MgO)2.Then write the atomic mass of each element.(Mg=24 &O=16)3.Add the atomic masses up to get the RFM.4.Intotal there is 40g of Mg0, 24g is Mg and 16g is O) Then 24 divided by 40 x 100= 60% of MgO is Mg.Same for O=40%
2 of 6
Moles
Moles= Mass divided by RAM 1 mole is the relative formula mass of that substance in grams.
3 of 6
Empirical Formula is the most simplist ratio,.
Info given in grams or % = same calculation.1. write the mass 2.write the RAM.Divide mass by Ram = number of moles.Divide by the smallest number. Then put into formula.
4 of 6
Reacting Masses
Check if calculations is balanced. Then,Write the RAM of each element.Divide each by the RFM.After the one you want to find out you times by the amount given in the question.
5 of 6
Yield
Actual yield-How much you actually make. Theoretical yield-How much you should make. Actual yield divided by Theoretical yield x by 100.
